When you live in Florida the mild weather allows for year round action. When the temperature drops that doesn’t always mean the fishing stops. Reds can be found tailing on the edge of the flats waiting to get into the muddy bottom that has been soaking up the sun’s rays. They have been eating readily and taking an assortment of artificial lures and flies. Dave got his on a fly in about 12 inches of water. The key is to work everything rather slowly. Pitching a small jig with a Gulp bait or small live or dead pieces of shrimp usually gets them interested. It seems that the cooler water give them a little extra pep too. Fish measuring 20 inches feel much bigger and sometimes you think you are fighting a much larger fish, but don’t be fooled the big ones are out there too. Just look at the size Jesse’s 35 inch redfish caught on Gulp artificial crab. Trout have been plentiful and are another year round target species. Greg got himself a nice trout on the flats fishing  the pot holes in about 3-4 feet of water. Another haven for winter snook are the canals and creeks. Adam landed a nice snook pulled from out of the dock lights at night. Let’s not forget near-shore either, grouper can be pulled from hard bottom only a few miles from shore. Not many grouper can resist a live pinfish as you can see by Sean’s nice keeper grouper.
