Mosquito redfish

Posted on 14 September 2008

Dave and Tim took a camping trip out to Mosquito Lagoon to hunt redfish. They were on the water by 6am. The morning topwater bite produced several nice sized reds and a few trout. After the rising sun they motored over to the south end of the lagoon and poled around spotting schooling reds which were over a hundred fish thick. After catching many fish in the 25″ - 30″ range they decided to call it a night. Dave and Tim set up camp having their fill of fresh fish and rested up for the morning bite.

Sunday they hit water at 5am and continued their pursuit of the spot tailed beauties. When they arrived to their spot they were greeted by big schools of fish. Immediately they were hooked up and realized they were fighting black drum. After landing three nice black drum they moved on to the reds. They finished off the trip landing a boat load of slot and over slot fish and headed back to the marina to prepare for the three hour tour home to Dunedin.
